To begin with, modern scientists have proven that all things are created with the same
energy, and that this energy is able to be manipulated to change the inherent structure of
any given object. Knowing this, and regarding the human form, Reiki is used to "tune in" to
the lower, denser, disease-prone vibration/frequency of this energy at a cellular level and
change it to that of a higher, "healthier" frequency. You could liken it to changing the radio
frequency when a song we don't like is being played!

Reiki has no political, religious or cultural affiliations, which means that everyone can use,
and benefit from, Reiki - no matter what their current belief systems are. Although the first
person to document the use of this particular branch of energetic healing in modern times
was Japanese (Dr Mikao Usui), there is no particular tie to this area of the world, and it is
practised by many world-wide with positive results.

Reiki generally involves a practitioner placing their hands on the client in a series of
movements, beginning at the head and ending at the soles of the feet - although there is a
practise called absent healing where the energy is sent over a distance to the client. Please let
your practitioner know if contact is uncomfortable for you. There are several ways to get
around this - either a blanket may be placed over you, or the practitioner may choose to
work just above the body in the electro-magnetic field, also known as the aura. This is just as
effective as a practitioner works with your energy, more than just your physical body.

As Reiki is essentially about changing and raising the vibration of the client's body, it is
common after a treatment to need several minutes to "ground" the client. Please leave
enough time between the conclusion of your treatment and any other appointment you
may have for this settling-down period. A responsible practitioner will not allow their client
to leave the premises before he or she is ready, especially to operate a vehicle.

Try not to have expectations of your first Reiki treatment, no matter what you may have
heard. It is a different experience for everyone - especially as we all have different issues in
our lives (and our bodies) to work through. Also, Reiki practitioners are not clairvoyant by
trade, though some have this ability, so please do not ask for the lotto numbers to come
through in a session! It simply does not work like that.
